Topology

Why Is It Important?

Topology refers to the way vertices, edges, and faces are organized across a 3D model. Good topology creates clean geometry that deforms, animates, and renders more smoothly. In modeling, topology is important because it helps keep models efficient and easier to work with.

Deformation

Deformation refers to the way a 3D model bends, stretches, or moves during animation. This can happen when a character moves its arms, bends its face, or changes expression. Good topology is important because clean edge flow allows the model to deform smoothly without creating sharp stretching, pinching, or distorted geometry.

Still Shots/Unmoving

If you are creating a still render, or if an object does not move within your scene, topology is usually less important. However, keep in mind that models with a high number of vertices can place more stress on your hardware and reduce performance.
